4 October 2006: From Russell D'Andrea:
It has been changed again. Now, because of letters from soldiers, family
members and myself to the chain, the ceremony will now be held on the
31 Oct 06. This time, the whole 3rd BDE, 1st AD will officially be
deactivated and presided over by the 1st ID Commanding General!! No time
or location available yet. There's plans for either an outdoor or indoor
ceremony in case of inclement weather. Russ will try to get us some
pictures. If anyone else is able to get pictures and/or video I
would appreciate copies. I think I have figured out how to get
video on the site.
The civilian contractor assigned to help with
equipment testing, packing and turn in employs a former member of the
company. Pete Cox, US Army, retired, served with the company twice,
in 1962 - 1963 as a SP4 and SGT. He also was with the company when
it was deployed to Viet Nam in 1968 as a SSG. Small world.
A change of command took place on 29 June 2006 in which CPT A A Herbert
was replaced by 1LT D R Young.
As further information becomes available I will post it here. |
